Rare Dimension

Hello stranger!

We're a small team of designers and developers based in the Pacific Northwest.

Three friends who love working together. We realized a few years ago that our complementary skills would be genuinely valuable to the organizations we love and rely on, so we started helping folks. Now it's our main gig, and we love it.

We're solid with the technical stuff.

Web design, WordPress, custom plugins, frontend animation, and branding. We care more about being good to work with. There's no account manager sitting between you and the people building your site. We move fast and we listen. And yes, we will overthink your button colors.

We believe the web is where your story gets told.

It's where most people form their first impression of your organization, so that's where we start.

You have something worth sharing. We'd love to help you build the place that shares it.

Design + Creative Direction

Matt Pahler

Matt is a multi-disciplinary creative with over a decade of experience freelancing in the nonprofit, entertainment, tech, and business industries. His career has spanned many design disciplines including WordPress-based web design, digital artwork & editing, print, branding, photo retouching, and project management.
That mix means he can move between tools inside one project instead of handing the work off partway through.
Development + Design

Grant Eadie

Grant Eadie has spent years designing and building websites, for massive enterprise platforms and scrappy startups alike.
He builds sites that load fast and stay easy to work in as they grow. He also keeps the code organized enough that whoever opens it next, including your team, can find their way around.
Animation + 3D

Zack Dixon

Zack Dixon is a 3D artist based between Portland and Seattle who specializes in animation, graphics, and interactivity. He's worked across branded content, narrative projects, and experiential installations, often landing in creative director and post-production roles along the way.
He's fluent in Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, and Houdini, plus enough scripting to make things work the way they're supposed to. Because he's worked across several disciplines, his estimates hold up and there are fewer surprises mid-project.
When he's not working, he's probably underwater in the kelp forests of Puget Sound, volunteering as a conservation diver.

FAQ

Working together

Nonprofits, universities, municipalities, and businesses whose values line up with ours. Usually they’re doing good work and ended up with a website that doesn’t show it. If your site feels like it belongs in a time capsule, that’s the kind of project we take.

Because we’re the ones doing the work, and there’s nobody junior behind us picking up the parts we skipped. Being small also means we’re picky about what we take on, so when we say yes to your project we mean it. We’d rather be the agency you don’t dread emailing than the biggest one out there.

Reach out! Tell us a little about your project, where you’re at with timelines, and what your budget looks like. We’ll hop on a call and figure out together if it’s a good fit.

The project

We do a lot of listening up front. We audit what you’ve got, find what’s quietly broken, and build a plan before we write any code. Design and dev happen together, not in separate rooms. You’ll see real work early and hear from us often enough that nothing catches you off guard.

Most rebuilds fall somewhere between 8 and 14 weeks. We’re not going to promise two weeks and ghost you at week six. We set timelines we can actually hit, and we’re upfront when something shifts.

Once we know the scope, absolutely. A content-heavy nonprofit site is a very different project than a university department portal, so we don’t do one-size-fits-all pricing. You’ll get a clear number before any work starts, and no surprise invoices after.

The technical stuff

It’s what we reach for most, but not out of habit. Most of our clients need a CMS they can actually use once we hand it off, and WordPress still does that better than almost anything. We’ve built with React, Next.js, Astro, Sanity, Drupal, all of it. We pick whichever one fits the job.

Yeah, kind of. Plugin bloat is one of the most common problems we see and one of the most satisfying to fix. We’ve taken sites from 50-something plugins down to around six without losing any functionality. What goes is the dead weight and the plugins nobody remembers installing.

We stick around. We offer support and we’ll train your team so they feel comfortable making updates on their own. That said, we build things to be low-maintenance on purpose. We’d honestly rather set you up to not need us than lock you into a retainer.
